Tips & Tricks For Hanging Art On Your Walls

You may have a bare wall in your home that needs something, but you're just not quite sure what. Our home decor store at the Lake of the Ozarks has an excellent variety of beautiful pieces to fill that empty spot in your room. Still, deciding exactly how to place it can be intimidating. Today Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon has a few tips to help make that part of it a little bit easier.

Good & Perfect Gifts, Lake of the Ozarks, wall art

Art to Wall Ratio
If you are hanging more than one piece of art on the same wall, but aren't exactly sure how to arrange them, treat the cluster as you would one single piece. Lay them all out on the floor first to see how it looks and think about how they relate to the wall in terms of size, color, and the theme of the artwork. Rearrange pieces as necessary, and be sure that there is a similar distance between each feature of your wall art.

Get the Right Angle
If you hang wall art too high, you’ll affect the room’s proportions. If you place it too low, viewing the piece will be uncomfortable. Use your eye to judge what looks right and make sure it appears composed. It shouldn't be so much that it overwhelms the room. If there is already a lot going on visually in a room, opt for fewer, larger pieces that will stand out. Too many small things in one place easily get lost on the wall and can make the space look cluttered and chaotic. Statement pieces will give the room a focal point.

Consider Every Aspect of the Wall
Take advantage of bare spaces on your walls to hang a beautiful piece or art. You can even place it in windows, on shelves, and on doors. Hang art in relation to what is already in the room and create a balance symmetrically and asymmetrically. Artwork can be centered vertically and horizontally, and if it’s not going to be perfectly symmetrical, focus on balancing the collection of wall art using furniture or lamps placed against the wall.

If you are hanging multiple pieces of wall art, make sure the middles of each piece are level. Connect artwork with your room’s elements, such as hanging pieces over the center of sofas and fireplaces. For your dining room, place wall art a little lower than you usually would because it is easier to view the art when you are seated around the dining room table. For raised ceilings with double-height walls, hang art a little higher than you would for a normal room to accommodate the proportions of the extra wall space. For an art gallery feel, use lovely pieces along your staircase. A varied collection of frames and sizes can be utilized, and they should follow a diagonal line upwards along the wall.

Easy Ideas To Bring Spring To Your Home Early

Even though it's still a few weeks away yet, our gift shop at the Lake of the Ozarks is anxious to get ready for spring. The bright and shiny season officially begins on March 20, but Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon has a few easy ideas for you that can bring spring into your home a little earlier this year.

Make Room of Flowers
The season of spring is all about new life and a fresh start. Bringing in some of the gorgeous blooms that will be showing up outside will literally allow you to bring spring into your home. Small bud vases are perfect for showing off a single flower or a sprig of blossoms off of a budding tree. If you'd rather leave the flowers outside in nature to thrive, you can duplicate that look with some beautiful artificial flowers instead, or add a few floral patterns to your home decor.

Add Bright Pops of Color
All winter long you have probably used warmer colors inside your home to bring about a warm feeling for the colder months. Now is the time to switch that color palette out for something softer, like some lovely pastels, or you could go bold and throw a few pops of bright shades around the room. A complete room makeover isn't necessary. This can be done simply by changing out throw pillows, curtains, or accent decor on your shelves. A small change can make a big difference.

Bring in Lighter Scents
Just like with the color in your home, the scents that you featured with candles, soaps, and lotions over the winter were heavier. Spring makes you crave that feeling of fresh air and sunny skies, so lighter scents such as lavender and citrus will put a smile on your face and get you in the mood for the new season.

Wear a Touch of Spring
Don't just dress up your home for spring, go ahead and dress up yourself too! A fresh new look for the coming months of warmer weather will definitely get you looking forward to everything that spring brings along with it. Shorter sleeves, lighter materials, brighter colors, and flowery accents will look beautiful.

Reward Yourself for Spring Cleaning
Not only is spring the time to open up all of those windows and freshen your home after a long winter inside, it's a good time to get rid of things you no longer want or need. This can be a great opportunity to add a little fun to the mix. Reward yourself for getting rid of a set number of things. For example, for every 5 items you get rid of, allow yourself to replace them with one brand new item from our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop. Out with the old, in with the new!

There are plenty of ways for you to add some new life to the look or your home for spring, and to your wardrobe as well! Visit us soon at Good & Perfect Gifts and see what new things we have in store for you.

Decorate Your Home For Winter

Once the holiday decorations are taken down you may feel like your living space needs a little something more. The end of the season doesn't have to mean festive winter decor has to go. You can create warm displays that last through the cold Missouri months by following some simple classic guidelines. Good and Perfect Gifts loves to decorate and we want to share some warm winter decorating tips so you can welcome winter in style.

Add Warm Textures

You can easily transform your everyday decor into a winter wonderland using neutral elements. Winter is all about coziness and when it's cold outside, you want to be warm and comfy inside. It's time to add warmth with soft throws, fluffy blankets and heavy curtains. Add more pillows to your beds and sofas and cover cold flooring with thick rugs and carpets to evoke a feeling of comfort in your living space.

Decorate With Natural Accents

Use winter as the ultimate cold-weather inspiration. The rustic charm of a midwest winter can be brought indoors by using natural elements to decorate. Use wood, stone, flowers, leaves and pine cones to create seasonal centerpieces or mantel decor. Winter greenery, berry-laden wreaths and branches are simple natural ways to dress up your home this winter.

Warm Winter Lighting

When the days just aren't as long and the natural light is less powerful, it's time to bring out the lamps and light the candles. You may want to check the wattage of your existing bulbs and be sure to replace any that are not working. Warm lighting makes spaces feel cozy and romantic.

Change The Artwork

Enchanting cold weather artwork could be just the thing to transition your home decor through the winter. Bold-colored artwork may look fantastic during the bright, colorful months of Spring and Summer, however, it may not be ideal for winter. Consider incorporating wintery landscapes, and subtle abstract pieces or black and white framed photos.

Transitional Displays

If you love the layered look of holiday decor, try swapping the red and green fabrics for soft creams and browns of winter. You can tone down holiday displays by replacing glittery, ornamental decor with subtle rustic flavors for the remainder of the cold-weather seasons. Try using lanterns in place of the removed holiday decor and branches work as a replacement for evergreen decor.

5 Home Decorating Rules You Can Ignore

Our Lake of the Ozarks home decor store is filled with an eclectic mix of items. No matter what your personal style is, you are bound to find something that you like. Good & Perfect Gifts realizes that choosing the perfect items to decorate your home with can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. As a matter of fact, it should be fun.

Some people may tell you that there are decorating rules that you must follow, but we disagree. The "rules" can be helpful as guidelines sometimes, but there are quite a few that simply don't need to be acknowledged at all.

#1 - Don't mix patterns and prints.

You can successfully put as many different patterns and prints in a space that you like. The key is to find a unifying element within them that brings it all together. A similar color or theme will help you to do this.

#2 - The most important piece of furniture is the couch.

A couch is often used as a focal point because it is usually one of the largest pieces in a room. It doesn't have to be. You can use a large window, a fireplace, a piece of art, or anything else that is attractive and draws attention as a focal point. As a matter of fact, if you want to have a collection of chairs around the room and skip the couch altogether, go for it.

#3 - Throw pillows can only be placed in odd numbers.

The same is said for most knick-knacks that you may choose to display in a room. This became a rule to help people avoid having everything match too much. In reality, if you want to add a fourth pillow to the mix because you think it looks better, do it. As long as it is pleasing to your eye, it's perfectly acceptable to do.

#4 - Ceilings have to be painted white.

They don't if you don't want a white ceiling. Some worry that a painted ceiling will make the room feel smaller and enclosed. On the contrary, the right shades can draw the eye up and make the space feel taller and more open. It's also a great chance to use another surface to show off your personality.

#5 - Artwork must be hung at eye level.

Not all people have the same eye level, so this is an impossible task to begin with. It is nice to have a piece of art hanging in the general area that your eyes naturally gravitate toward, but if it's a beautiful piece, eyes will be drawn to it wherever it is placed.

A grouping of many pieces can look wonderful placed neatly at various levels on the same wall. You don't even have to put it on the wall. Place it on a wall shelf leaning or put it against a stack of books on a bookshelf.

When you are deciding on how you want to design a room in your home, all that really matters is that you enjoy the look and it makes you happy to be in that room. If you stand back and take in the big picture, if you like it, then it's good enough for anyone that visits your home.

Our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop has many different items that appeal to a wide variety of styles. We have new arrivals all of the time, so each visit to Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon is bound to show you something new that would look perfect in your home.
