Bring Fall To Your Home Decor

Next week fall arrives, so it's a great time to begin thinking about making a seasonal switch to your home decor. Autumn is filled with beautiful colors and rich scents, and our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop has many of these in store for you. If you need a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing, Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon has come up with a bit of inspiration for you.

Warm It Up
As the weather gets chilly outside, it's time to bring a cozy, warm feeling to the inside of your home. Color is a wonderful way to accomplish this. Change out your bright, summery accents for beautiful fall colors, like reds, oranges, deep yellows, browns, and dark greens. Imagine a pumpkin patch and you will find all of the color inspiration you need. Display those colors with throw pillows, blankets, placemats, napkins, and florals, to name a few ideas.

Find Your Fall Fragrance
Another way to warm up a home quickly and easily is to light a few scented candles. Breathing in certain aromas will immediately put you in an autumn state of mind. Imagine all of the lovely scents associated with Thanksgiving and you'll be on the right track; pumpkin spice, apples, cinnamon, and the chocolate of campfire s'mores are all wonderful.

Bring Out Holiday Memories
Big family holidays are coming up soon, like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Fall is an excellent time to pull out a few favorite photos from past holidays. Changing out the photographs and artwork displayed on your walls and shelves is a simple way to bring the feel of a new season to your home decor.

Don't Forget the Front Door
Fall is a spectacular time to add to your home's curb appeal. Leafy wreaths on the front door and seasonal decorative flags hanging outside are a great place to start. You can fill your porch with colorful mums and all shapes and sizes of pumpkins and gourds too.

Bring the Outside Inside
Nature makes perfect autumn decorations for the inside of your home as well as the outside. Apples and small pumpkins can be carved out to hold tealight candles. Larger pumpkins and gourds can make excellent flower vases. Those beautiful leaves falling all over your yard can be used for wreaths and wall art, or as accent pieces on serving trays. Bare branches in a vase even look great when arranged in a nice way. If you don't want to worry about keeping an eye on those natural items before they shrivel up, there are lots of lovely artificial versions within our home decor at the Lake of the Ozarks. They will last all season long and store beautifully until next year.

Come In & Find More Inspiration
Good & Perfect Gifts is constantly receiving new merchandise, so every time that you visit you should find something brand new. Right now we are stocking up on wonderful fall items, so it's a great time to stop by and see what catches your eye. We're open every Wednesday through Friday from 10 am - 5 pm, and each Saturday from 9 am -  4 pm.

5 Home Decorating Rules You Can Ignore

Our Lake of the Ozarks home decor store is filled with an eclectic mix of items. No matter what your personal style is, you are bound to find something that you like. Good & Perfect Gifts realizes that choosing the perfect items to decorate your home with can be intimidating, but it doesn't have to be. As a matter of fact, it should be fun.

Some people may tell you that there are decorating rules that you must follow, but we disagree. The "rules" can be helpful as guidelines sometimes, but there are quite a few that simply don't need to be acknowledged at all.

#1 - Don't mix patterns and prints.

You can successfully put as many different patterns and prints in a space that you like. The key is to find a unifying element within them that brings it all together. A similar color or theme will help you to do this.

#2 - The most important piece of furniture is the couch.

A couch is often used as a focal point because it is usually one of the largest pieces in a room. It doesn't have to be. You can use a large window, a fireplace, a piece of art, or anything else that is attractive and draws attention as a focal point. As a matter of fact, if you want to have a collection of chairs around the room and skip the couch altogether, go for it.

#3 - Throw pillows can only be placed in odd numbers.

The same is said for most knick-knacks that you may choose to display in a room. This became a rule to help people avoid having everything match too much. In reality, if you want to add a fourth pillow to the mix because you think it looks better, do it. As long as it is pleasing to your eye, it's perfectly acceptable to do.

#4 - Ceilings have to be painted white.

They don't if you don't want a white ceiling. Some worry that a painted ceiling will make the room feel smaller and enclosed. On the contrary, the right shades can draw the eye up and make the space feel taller and more open. It's also a great chance to use another surface to show off your personality.

#5 - Artwork must be hung at eye level.

Not all people have the same eye level, so this is an impossible task to begin with. It is nice to have a piece of art hanging in the general area that your eyes naturally gravitate toward, but if it's a beautiful piece, eyes will be drawn to it wherever it is placed.

A grouping of many pieces can look wonderful placed neatly at various levels on the same wall. You don't even have to put it on the wall. Place it on a wall shelf leaning or put it against a stack of books on a bookshelf.

When you are deciding on how you want to design a room in your home, all that really matters is that you enjoy the look and it makes you happy to be in that room. If you stand back and take in the big picture, if you like it, then it's good enough for anyone that visits your home.

Our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop has many different items that appeal to a wide variety of styles. We have new arrivals all of the time, so each visit to Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon is bound to show you something new that would look perfect in your home. Stop by soon, see what we've got in store, and share a little of your personal style with us.

5 Easy Home Decorating Resolutions To Make

A new year always brings along with it the desires for fresh, new starts.  One great place to begin is with your home decor.  It's cold in January, and you are probably spending a lot more time in the house this time of year.  Decorating your home in a new way may seem like an overwhelming task, but small changes can make a huge difference.  Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon is full of items that will bring a new, exciting feel to any room.  Here are a few easy home decorating resolutions to get you started.

Clear the clutter

Over the years we all pick up items here and there that begin to accumulate, and before you know it, they've taken over the house!  The best thing that you can do for your home decor is to clear the "clutter."  Evaluate each room, looking for items that are no longer used, or have fallen into disrepair.  Removing these pieces will free up space to fill with things that can be useful, or something new and pretty that simply makes you feel good.  If you cannot part with something but don't really need it out, pack it away for a while.  If you miss it, bring it back out at a later date and it will feel brand new again.  If you don't miss it, then you know it can go.

Display your collections

If you have a favorite animal, character, or hobby that everyone buys you knick-knacks to match, that doesn't necessarily have to be considered clutter.  If it's something that you really love, make it a focal point instead.  Group the items together on a shelf or table and you have instead decor plus a conversation piece. Maybe you have collected certain decorating items over the years; candlesticks, spice canisters, picture frames, etc...   Do the same with these.  Fill all of the frames and put them in a grouping together.  If you don't have enough photos that you want to display, put a pretty design in a few of them.  Do you have a drawer full of colorful potholders in the kitchen?  Display them on the wall.  They'll decorate the room and always be out and ready for use.

Update one room

One room doesn't sound too overwhelming.  You can even choose the smallest room in the house.  It doesn't have to be a full makeover with paint and new furniture. Change the accent color in the room to a new one, or add a few pops of color if the room was missing that.  Add a new shower curtain to a bathroom or choose new place mats and napkins for the dining room.  Add a new piece of art to the wall and choose things to fill the room that go along with it.  Small changes can make a huge difference in both the look and feel that a room has.  Once you see how easily an update can be, maybe you will want to go from only one room to one room each month!

Decorate for you first, company second

Everyone wants the house to look nice when company comes over, but those people are only there occasionally.  You have to be there every single day.  With this in mind, when you decide which room to update, start with one that you use the most yourself.  You most likely spend a lot of time in your own bedroom and bathroom. Maybe it's the family room.  Updating the home decor where you spend the majority of your time means you will see it more often and it will inspire you to do the same in other rooms later on.  Pick out some beautiful candles or pretty soaps to place around your bathtub.  Inspirational sayings on the walls are a wonderful motivator too.  Decorate for your own enjoyment and others are bound to love it too.

Make accent pieces seasonal

Holiday decorations are fun and exciting because they change up the look of the home from it's everyday norm.  You don't have to wait for a holiday to do this. Treat the four seasons like a holiday.  Changing out picture frames, scented candles, throw pillows, flower arrangements, and even wall art to match the current season keeps the look from getting dull.

The new home decor updates that you can make to every room in your home are only limited to your imagination.  Start slow, and we're willing to bet you will have so much fun with the resolutions above, you'll want to keep going.  When you visit our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop, the decorating possibilities are endless!  If you need a little inspiration, we would be happy to help you out.  Good & Perfect Gifts' inventory changes often, giving you new items to choose from all of the time.  Visit us early in 2016 and let us help you start the year off in a fun, new, decorative way!
