Beautiful Symbols of Easter

Lots of the things that people associate with spring are also associated with the Easter holiday. It's not necessarily because they both occur at the same time, but rather because there are many meaningful reasons behind quite a few of them. The home decor items at the Lake of the Ozarks that we have in store right now make excellent Easter decorations. After learning some of the symbolism surrounding them, they seem even more beautiful.

The Cross
This is a reminder of not only the crucifixion, but also the glorious resurrection of Jesus Christ. It signifies God's power to forgive sins and give new life. You are very likely to see hot cross buns on the Easter dinner table in homage to this.

Easter Eggs
Eggs at Easter time aren't just plastic containers for holding candy surprises. Many Christians see it as a reminder of the tomb from which Jesus arose. A long time ago, eggs colored red were made to symbolize the Resurrection. The baby chicks you see are the sign of new life from the eggs.

Easter Lilies
The fact that these beautiful flowers bloom close to Easter in the spring makes them ideal for a holiday flower. They also resemble trumpets, which happens to be a symbol for living forever with God.

Bunnies
In ancient times, the rabbit was seen as a symbol for abundant new life, which is a key theme for the Easter holiday.

Butterflies
These lovely creatures begin life as a caterpillar, which spins itself away into a cocoon. When it emerges, new and even more beautiful than ever, this life cycle can be seen as a symbol of eternal life. It is representative of Jesus living on Earth, his burial in a tomb, and his emerging from that tomb to an eternal life.

Lambs
Jesus was described by John the Baptist as the "Lamb of God," and there are many places in the bible where this title is used.

Pretzels
This snack food is often eaten during Lent and can be served for Easter. The shape resembles arms crossed in prayer.

If you need a few festive spring decorations to add to your holiday collection, Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon has a wonderful variety of items that will look beautiful in your home for Easter and throughout spring. 5 Ways To Spread Christmas Cheer!

Good & Perfect Gifts may be your one-stop-shop for gifts of every season but during the holidays we like to share just a little bit more! Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the year - an annual reminder to be thankful and reflect on the true reason for the season. We know you love spreading holiday cheer at Christmas time - that's why Good & Perfect Gifts hopes you find time to try one or all of these tips and enjoy your holidays to the fullest!

1. Surprise Someone With a Gift

Good & Perfect Gifts has something for everyone and every budget. Kids and adults alike, love to share a special gift with an unsuspecting friend or someone in need. Let us help you pick out a little something to wrap and secretly leave on someone's doorstep. Children will love to deliver small gifts to people they encounter during the day. Think, cashiers, restaurant staff, and Salvation Army bell ringers.

2. Make a "Giving" & "Getting" Wish List

Most people, especially kiddos, love to make their Christmas wish list. Consider suggesting a "Giving Wish list" in addition to the traditional, Santa list. When you focus on giving to others first, children will often get excited to spread holiday cheer through gifts of service, gifts to make, and gifts to buy.

3. Help Those Less Fortunate

Often, you learn the most about true giving when you give to those who can't easily give back. Prepare goodie bags for the elderly, the homeless, or for families with loved ones in the local hospital. At Good & Perfect Gifts, we would love to help fill your holiday packages.

4. Share Sweets From Sugar B's Cakes & Pastries

We would love to help stock you with goodies from our incredible bakery, located inside Good & Perfect Gifts. Grab some brownies, ooey gooey butter cake, or truffles and secretly leave them for your neighbors, teachers, or others. No one will be able to resist the ready-to-eat creations from Sugar B's Cakes & Pastries - don't forget to pick up something for yourself, too!

5. Pay It Forward

During the holidays and always, paying it forward is a wonderful way to spread cheer. Load up the family in the car and head for a food drive-through. After you pay for your own order, tell the cashier you'd like to pay for the orders of the car behind you. You'll love watching the reaction of the people you've surprised! The goal is that hopefully those families will continue the chain of cheer, further brightening the lives of others in our community.

It really is the most wonderful time of the year - and Good & Perfect Gifts is here to help you enjoy all the anticipation, excitement, and meaning of the season. Enjoy spreading Christmas cheer this year and don't forget to make a stop at Good & Perfect Gifts a holiday tradition as well! Our friendly sales staff is ready and waiting to assist you with any last minute holiday shopping you may have - see you soon, and Merry Christmas!

7 Fun Holiday Traditions to Start

Getting gifts every year at Christmas time shouldn't be the only thing that you have to look forward to.  Good & Perfect Gifts is a big fan of annual holiday traditions. When you come up with ways to spend quality time with your family and friends around the holidays, that can end up being better than any material gift you could receive.  Here are a few great ideas for traditions that you can begin with your friends and family every year.

Bake together.

The earlier in December you do this, the more sweet treats you will have time to make over the holidays!  Spend a day making up batches of treats to be baked later, or take care of the mixing and baking all at once.  Another option is to stick to one or two holiday favorites, like sugar cookies or gingerbread cookies, then spend the rest of the time decorating them.

Watch a movie marathon.

There are tons of holiday movies to watch, and you can easily find some to match your crowd.  There are lots of Christmas cartoons for the kids, and just as many comedies out there for a more adult audience if there won't be any children at your gathering.  From the heartfelt classics all the way to a few scary choices, you should have plenty of movies to pick from to fill a day with flicks.  Mix up a few snack foods to last the day and get some gift wrapping done while you watch.

Host a game night.

Plan one entire evening around having fun and playing games.  Everyone can gather around the table and go through all of your favorite board games.  Another option is to plan some holiday-themed competitions, like Pin the Nose on the Reindeer or a gift-wrapping relay race.  Come up with a really cool trophy to be passed on to the grand champion year after year.

Record memories.

When your family and friends are all together for the season, it's a perfect time to think back about all of the wonderful things that have happened over the past year. Keep a journal or scrapbook that can be added to annually and let each person write in one of their favorite memories.  Make sure that you take a good group photo to add to the book when you are all done writing.

Go on a holiday lights tour.

There are all kinds of holiday light displays nearly everywhere that you look.  Bundle everyone up, pile into the car, and take a lights tour.  If you have a large group, turn it into a caravan with festive stops along the way.  At the end of the night, meet back at home for hot chocolate.

Volunteer together.

There are always extra opportunities around the holidays to volunteer and help out someone that is in need.  Collect items to deliver to a local food pantry or shelter, visit the animal shelter and walk the dogs, or go to a nursing home or hospital and sing some carols.

Start a Christmas Eve or Christmas morning tradition.

Come up with an activity that you can all do together and will look forward to every year.  Read "Twas the Night Before Christmas" before going to bed on Christmas Eve, taking turns reading lines out loud.  Place the final decoration, the topper, on the tree.  Host an annual brunch on Christmas Day for friends to stop by.  One simple thing can turn into a really big deal when you make it a tradition.

When choosing your new holiday tradition, focus on the things that your family and friends enjoy doing together.  In between all of the new traditions that you start, stop by our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop and get in a bit of Christmas shopping. We've also got lots of tasty gourmet treats for you to take back to your new annual holiday movie or game night.  Whatever you end up doing, the important thing is that you enjoy it together.  Have a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us at Good & Perfect Gifts.

Creative Gift Wrapping Ideas

Finding the perfect present for the special people on your list is the fun part, but wrapping them up to give away is where the work starts.  It needs to be done, and with a little bit of creativity, you can make the package almost as incredible as what is inside of it.  Our Lake of the Ozarks gift shop is filled with wonderful things in all shapes and sizes for everyone on your list.  The following ideas from Good & Perfect Gifts in Eldon will inspire you to get creative with your gift wrapping.

The easiest thing to do, aside from letting someone else wrap the gifts for you, is to place it in a pretty Christmas bag.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with going the easy route.  No one is going to turn down a filled gift bag!  If you would like to get a little more creative when you wrap gifts this season, try a few of the following ideas.

PERSONALIZED PAPER

We're not talking about the wrapping paper that you can buy in every store.  Choose a type of paper that matches the gift or a hobby of the recipient.  Wrap action figures in comic book pages, or a football in the sports section of the newspaper.  Sheet music is perfect for music lovers, and if you use it from a Christmas song, it's perfect for any present.

Another way to go is to use plain paper and decorate it yourself.  There is no need for a gift tag if you stamp the name of the person getting the gift directly on the paper.  Cover the paper in holiday stickers, glue on cut-out snowflakes, or draw your own pictures or messages.  Kids will especially love helping out with a project like this.

A GIFT INSIDE A GIFT

In this case, the only decoration needed is possibly a great big bow stuck on top.  If you give away a gift that can be filled with other things, the packaging is taken care of.  In some cases, this is helpful for hard-to-wrap items too.  A few examples would be:

  • Fill an oven mitt with cooking utensils and your favorite recipe.
  • Put almost anything inside a large mason jar.  It can be dry mix for cookies or cocoa, or a mini-spa kit with nail files, cotton balls, and nail polish.
  • Pack a cooler filled with picnic or tailgating items.
  • Put new sheets and a stuffed animal inside the pillowcase and tie it with string.
  • Something large, like a bicycle, can be covered up in a festively patterned sheet.
  • Even if the gift is boxed up, use a blanket, t-shirt, or other fabric for the paper and you've got 2-gifts-in-1.

STOCKINGS

The classic Christmas stocking could work, but if you think outside the box, you can get creative with this presentation too.  Fill a couple of knee socks with all kinds of goodies and tie them together at the top with a fancy shoelace.  Slippers can hold lots of items too.  You could even skip the sock and use a shoe.  Imagine how much you could stuff into a tall boot!

Going that extra mile to make the outside of the package as special as what is inside makes everything seem more festive and fun.  This may not be for everyone though.  If you don't have the extra time to get creative with your gift wrapping,  no one will mind one bit.  It's not the packaging or even the gift that matters, but the love and thought behind it.

If you want to make things even easier on yourself, pick up one of the already made hand-packaged gift baskets from our Eldon gift shop.  We can even custom design one for you.  There are tons of items at Good & Perfect Gifts for every person on your list.  Stop by soon and let us take care of you.
